USGBC Event: Commissioning the Building Envelope

12/01/2011

Join fellow green building enthusiasts on December 13th for a glimpse at what the future holds for high performance new construction.  LEED 2012 will encourage building envelope commissioning as a cost effective way of improving building energy efficiency and comfort for occupants.

Montgomery College in Rockville this fall completed a state-of-the-art LEED registered Science Center, with many sustainable features, that is headed for LEED Gold level certification.  As part of its enhanced commissioning effort, the College required commissioning of many of the building assemblies as defined by ASHRAE Guideline 0-2005, The Commissioning Process, including the building envelope.

Energy Manager, Mike Whitcomb, P.E., will describe the commissioning process including physical tests of the high performance envelope and the use of “mock-up labs” for quality control.  Attendees will also hear from the various professionals involved with the design and commissioning process.  A tour of the Montgomery College Rockville Science Center will follow the presentation.

The free event will be held on December 13, 2011 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.  For more information and to register for this event click on this link: http://www.usgbcncr.org/_events/details/395.
