Freestate Shopping Center Goals Met

Date:
June 26, 2007

Freestate Shopping Center on Route 450, Bowie, MD has seen a significant amount of construction activity and change over the last four years. And TW Construction has been a large part of it. This strip shopping mall has been converted to an exterior retail center with a completely new facade, new retail buildings, re-paved, landscaped, upgraded utilities, and prepared for a variety of new retail tenants. Part of the catalyst for the change was the demolition of almost 80,000 SF of existing building to make room for a relocated Giant Food Store and other "big box" tenants.

The recent deadline was to complete the facades and interiors for three major tenants: Office Depot, Ross Dress for Less and TJ Maxx. TW successfully met successive leasing deadlines for each store, challenged by time periods compressed as much as 60 days in one case. Work included reconfigured parking areas and sidewalks, as well as closing down the main shopping center entrance while this was aligned to new design criteria. A new 10" water service in a 48" casing across Route 450 was also part of the challenge given to TW.

The final stages of the work toward occupancy are currently being completed as these retailers prepare to fixture and stock inventory toward their Grand Openings.
