Featured Projects
Therrien Waddell takes great pleasure in working on and being an integral part of Sustainable Green Projects in the Maryland, DC and Virginia area. Two of these Sustainable Green projects include the NIST Net Zero Residential Test Facility and the Crystal Rock Office Building.
NIST Net Zero Residential Test Facility
In the Fall of 2010, we began the construction of the NIST Net Zero Residential Test Facility located on the Gaithersburg, Maryland campus of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. This very unique test facility will allow scientists and researchers to perform actual "in place tests" of building materials and systems in a full scale mock up of a typical two-story suburban home. USGBC and other sustainability codes and guides are looking towards the Net Zero model as the end goal of the model building and energy conservation codes for future buildings. The NIST Net Zero Residential Test Facility is scheduled for completion in May 2012.
Crystal Rock Office Building
In 2008, we completed construction of one of the first green roof buildings in Montgomery County, Maryland. The Crystal Rock Office Building located in Germantown, Maryland is a three story commercial office building. The building features a brick veneer wall exterior over a structural steel frame, elevators and a finished ground floor lobby. The Upper levels are subdivided for office condominium occupancy and the building featured the first upper county "green" roof, with a concrete deck, lightweight soil and a variety of sedum plantings to offset some of the on-site storm water requirements.
