What is LEED?
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, also known as LEED, is the internationally recognized standard for measuring building sustainability. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) developed the LEED green building rating system to promote positive and ethical design and construction practices within the construction industry. These standards help to increase profitability and improve overall public health, while reducing many negative environmental impacts to buildings and their occupants.
What does LEED measure?
LEED measures energy and atmospheric levels, the quality of the indoor environments, the use of materials and resources, water efficiency, and LEED determines whether or not sites are utilizing sustainable practices.
What are “Sustainable Green Building Practices”?
One of the best ways to demonstrate that your building is truly “Green” is by achieving LEED Certification. LEED certification requires that you follow sustainable green building practices which include, but are not limited to, incorporating and installing high performance HVAC systems, individual thermostat controls, lighting occupancy sensors, day-lighting modulation controls into the construction of your Green buildings. Good Sustainable Green Building Practices also include following Green guidelines and codes administered by local county and state governments.
